Grand Theft Auto V has been voted Golden Joystick Awards 2013 Game of the Year.
The public voted for Rockstar’s sequel ahead of runners-up The Last of Us and BioShock Infinite.
The game joins a host of other Golden Joystick Award winners including Best Newcomer The Last of Us, Best Indie Game Mark of the Ninja, Best Multiplayer game Payday 2 and Best Handheld game Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation.
GTA V was released on September 17 to widespread critical acclaim and became an instant commercial smash hit.
In CVG’s recent GTA V review Andy Kelly described the game as “sprawling, thrilling, beautiful” and “the best Grand Theft Auto yet”.
On its first day the open-world title achieved worldwide retail sales of $800 million. After three days, global sales topped $1 billion.
