Liberty City is littered with characters which you meet through others. The list is a long one, so here are just a few that you meet as you progress through the game.

8-Ball escapes with you from the police convoy at the beginning of the game and introduces you to Luigi Goterelli, a good friend of his. In turn Luigi gives you work and you get a footing in Liberty City.
8-Ball is Liberty City's explosive and firearms expert, and with 3 bomb shops located around Liberty City, getting your hands on either is easy.

Misty is one of many hookers in Liberty City and is one of "Luigi's Girls" from his Sex Club 7 asset.
She has an on going relationship with Joey Leone.
Missions that concern Misty are mostly simple taxi services with instructions to keep your eyes on the road and off her.

Maria is Don Salvatore Leone's girlfriend and is introduced to you when you get assigned a mission by the Don to look after her for an evening.
She developes a liking towards you and can be heard on Chatterbox FM unsure what to do.
**Spoiler Below**
She tells the Don that you and her are an item. The Don sets a trap to get you killed but your informed by Maria just in time. Both of you flee to Staunton Island.
Maria introduces you to Asuka Kasen co-leader of the Yakuza gang.

He is the brother of Asuka Kasen, the other co-leader.
Kenji owns a Casino in Downtown Staunton Island and this is also where you get assigned jobs by him.
